My feeling is that cosplay has come to different countries for different reasons, and, depending on that country's level of costuming history and culture, manifested itself in a new and unique sense. You can find costumers who call themselves cosplayers all over the world! Brazil, France, Italy, England, Germany, Russia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, China, The US, Canada and Australia are among some of the places with large (and growing) cosplay communities and the biggest numbers of costumers that define themselves as cosplayers (outside of Japan).
